sales is in many jobs and I always figure to place myself in the customers shoes when I work in that area, If I figure I usually come in knowing what I want or just looking to see or waist time and if I realy want service I will ask for it, I usually give my customers the same advantage but I like service people coming up and asking and making me feel welcome as well so I tend to lead with that in jobs, doing the little extra things as personalised service people appreciate goes a long way, calling a cab for aged customers or opening the for them, always thinking of security and lost items etc and making sure they are returned safely. one time a customer lost her credit card in the car park and I found it and rang the bank and the following day she sent around flowers to me as a thankyou, she was so relieved of the stress. it all does count and people remember when you do something of quality for them.
